[Extract text from the CD booklet]
In Roman Baroque music, sacred and profane, worldliness and spirituality meet in an endless variety of timbres, rhythms, harmonic and melodic creations, in a shining spark of sounds, representing one of the richest and highest moments in Western music history. Listening to the surprising and fascinating Roman Baroque world of sounds, reveals, more than any word, its essence and spirit.
All the artistic aesthetic elements have their equivalent in music, that shows a substantial unity within the art and music of the time, when, between the 16th and 17th Century, one of the most exciting moments of the European art and culture takes shape in Rome.
Nowhere else there is such a high concentration of artists, architects, musicians able to create works of universal value: from Michelangelo to Raphael, from Bramante to Bernini and Borromini, as well as, for the musicians, Palestrina, Victoria, Caccini, Frescobaldi, Carissimi – all present in this CD – whose compositions are beyond time.
